The Charleston Academy of Musical Theater (CAMT) believes that all children have a natural talent waiting to be awakened. Our Musical Theatre training program is lead by national award-winning children's theatre director Courtney Sarre and international opera singer Diana Flaherty.  CAMT prides itself in providing a nurturing environment where students will develop skills in acting, voice, and dance.

Musical Theatre Classes

Description: Students will focus on developing skills in singing, acting, and choreography. These sessions will end with a performance for friends and family.  Our Mount Pleasant location is at 709 Johnnie Dodds Blvd, inside the Academy of Dance Arts studio.

Spring 2022

Mondays - Lower Elementary Musical Theatre (ADAMT1-3) - Grades: 1st - 3rd

Does your child love to sing and dance? Then this class for them.  Students will work on numbers from popular Broadway musicals developing skills in singing, acting, and choreography.  The session will end with a performance for friends and family. 
Ages: Grades 1st -3rd
Dates: Mondays, January 25th - May 16th (No 3/28 & 4/11 Class) 16 Weeks

Wednesdays - Acting & Improv  (ADAIMP4-7)

Learn to act on your feet! Join us for a fun fifteen week session of class bonding, improvisational games, unique performance tactics, and creative theatrical exploration! This engaging hour long class will challenge students to work collaboratively with each other, act impulsively and creatively, and cultivate storylines and characters that capture audiences. Class will be held once a week for 4th-7th grade students.

Dates:  Wednesdays, January 19th - May 18th (No 3/23, 3/30 or 4/13 Class) 15 Weeks

Wednesdays - Acting for Musical Theatre Workshop (ADAMT8-12)  8th-12th Grade

Want to become a better musical theatre actor and explore different theatrical techniques? This class will focus on different schools of thought for actors, character development, stage terminology, and their practical applications to musical theatre acting. Students will challenge themselves while learning different styles of acting to find depth and reality inside of musical theatre's glitz & glam! This class is recommended for our Hybrid and Teen Performance Company students who are not currently taking acting lessons elsewhere. Ages: Grades 8th-12th

Lunch Time Theatre

Giving more kids a way to experience the theatre is one of our greatest aspirations.  We are proud to be able to offer theatre classes once a week during the 2021-22 school year for grades 1-4 at Christ Our King - Stella Maris School.  These classes are held during student lunch and recess periods and will culminate in a performance for family and friends in the Black Box Theatre!


Grades 1-2 meet on Tuesdays from 1/25/22 to 5/17/22 (No 3/29 & 4/19 Class)

Grades 3-4 meet on Thursdays from 1/20/21 to 5/19/22 (No 3/31 & 4/21 Class)
