The Charleston Academy of Musical Theater (CAMT) believes that all children have a natural talent waiting to be awakened. Our Musical Theatre training program is lead by national award-winning children's theatre director Courtney Sarre and international opera singer Diana Flaherty. CAMT prides itself in providing a nurturing environment where students will develop skills in acting, voice, and dance.

2023 Spring Session
Lower Elementary Musical Theatre (ADAMT1-3)
Does your child love to sing and dance? This introductory class will have your child engaged and give them a chance to explore their interests. Students will work on numbers from popular Broadway musicals developing skills in singing, acting, and choreography. The session will end with a performance for friends and family featuring your rising superstars!
Ages: 1st -3rd Grade

Time: 3:15-4:15 pm

Musical Theatre Workshop (ECMT1-3) & (ECMT4-6)
This workshop is designed to help teach and refine students’ skills in musical theatre and give them the experience of putting on a mini production from auditions to final performance. Focus will be on character development, choreography and vocals as students work on a 30 minute length show, a Mini-Musical. The session will end with a performance for friends and family. No previous experience required.

ECMT1-3: Grades 1st-3rd
ECMT4-6: Grades 4th-6th
Acting & Improv (ADAIMP4-7)
Learn to act with creativity and spontaneity! This session of improvisational games, unique performance tactics, and creative theatrical exploration will have students connecting with classmates through bonding and trust-building activities. This engaging hour-long class will challenge students to collaborate, act with their gut-reactions, and cultivate storylines and characters that capture audiences.

Advanced Acting (ADA ACT6-10)
Want to become a better actor and explore different theatrical techniques? This class will teach students about acting theory and schools of thought as well as character development, and stage terminology. Students will be challenged to find depth and reality inside of the characters they portray! This class is recommended for our students who are not currently taking acting lessons elsewhere and would like to grow their onstage skills.

Intro to Musical Theatre Choreography (ADACH3-7)
Want to become a better musical theatre dancer and understand all those dance terms your choreographer uses? This class will focus on Ballet and Jazz technique, terminology, and its practical application to musical theatre choreography. Students will apply technique while learning different styles of musical theatre dance.
This class is recommended for our Junior and Elementary Performance Company students who are not currently taking dance elsewhere.

Lunch Time Theatre

Lunch Time Theatre at COK-SM
Giving more kids a way to experience the theatre is one of our greatest aspirations.
We are proud to be able to offer theatre classes once a week during the
2021-22 school year for grades 1-4 at Christ Our King - Stella Maris School.
These classes are held during student lunch and recess periods and culminate in
a performance for family and friends in the Black Box Theatre!

and most recently performed scenes from
Beauty & the Beast and Sleeping Beauty for family members.
