Acting Camp: Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Grades 2-4) 

Want to enter the Wizarding World but never received your letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Now’s your chance to pick up your wand and join us on an expertly themed 5-day Hogwarts experience, including the scientific curriculum of Professor Slughorn’s Potions class, Hagrid’s magical zoology experiments, Professor McGonagall’s famous yule ball dance techniques, and Harry Potter’s tips & tricks to becoming head student. This camp will use fun theatre games and acting techniques to build confident performance skills, and be paired expertly with carefully crafted and themed educational experiences that will ensure our performers will make some magical moments! Our five day Hogwarts experience will culminate in an end-of-the week performance on stage for friends and family.

Acting Camp II: Harry Potter and the Dark Arts (Grades 5-7)

Grab your wand and join us as we advance our newest class of students to the next level of their magical education during this intermediate wizarding experience, including the scientific curriculum of transfiguration with Professor McGonagall, Gilderoy Lockhart’s Duelling Club, Professor Snape’s rigorous Potions class, Newt Scamander’s fantastic beasts, and try your hat at mind reading with Queenie. You may even fall victim to the Dancing Feet Spell! This camp will use fun theatre games and acting techniques to build confident performance skills, and be paired expertly with carefully crafted and themed educational experiences that will ensure our performers will make some magical moments! Our five day experience will culminate in an end-of-the week performance on stage for friends and family.

Musical Theatre Intensive: Grease (Grades 4-8)

“Grease is the word!” Join us for one week of extensive professional training in the songs and choreography during this Grease themed camp, culminating in a mini-musical production that will be custom tailored to the development and strengths of our young artists. Campers will get the tactical experience of putting on a show from start-to-finish, starting with structured auditions, daily rehearsals, and ending with a performance for friends and family.  During this intensive, students will receive personalized instruction, dedicated attention, and lots of choreo from the musical.  By the end of camp they’ll be saying “Summer lovin’, had me a blast!”

Age: Rising 4th-8th Grades

Musical Theatre Intensive: Disney Musical Mash-Up  (Grades 2-5)

We want you to “be our guest” for a fun-filled week of songs and scenes from Disney musicals in this full day summer intensive session led by Mrs. Courtney Sarre. Our staff may not “talk about Bruno,” but they will help our campers develop budding talents, explore acting, singing, and dancing techniques designed to help introduce and strengthen performing skills, and harness their imaginative and creative energies into an end-of-week performance that will surely show our students “a whole new world.” Don’t let this opportunity go! Songs and scenes will be selected from popular Disney musicals and be paired expertly with carefully crafted and themed educational experiences that will ensure our performers will make some magical moments! This 5-day camp culminates in an end-of-week performance of scenes and songs that will be learned throughout the week.

Age: Rising 2-5th Grades

CAMT'S SUMMER MAIN STAGE PRODUCTION

Main Stage Production: CAMT’s Broadway Showcase  (Grades 6-8)

Calling all theatre kids! Come be a part of a staged musical theatre revue at the historic Sottile Theatre - featuring show stopping numbers from some of Broadway’s most beloved classics like Disney’s Lion King and Aladdin, or like the modern favorites Wicked and Six, that will showcase the talents of your child! 

This 2-week musical theatre training program is the perfect place for our students who have a passion to perform and want to hone their craft and showcase it on stage. Under the guidance and direction of several of Charleston’s most accomplished children's theatre educators, this musical medley showcase will enable our young artists to work with fun and exciting age-appropriate materials while receiving dedicated and detailed instruction on advanced voice, movement and acting techniques, exploring a variety of styles of musical theatre in a professional training environment. During the rehearsal process, students will be trained in the areas of character development, ensemble acting, improvisation, harmonization, and audition skills to develop musical theatre’s new generation of confident and well-rounded performers.  To showcase their newly developed skills, campers will perform songs and scenes learned during the camp in a pre-show performance for our summer production of Xanadu Jr.

Dates: July 15th - July 27 (11 days) 

Age: Rising 6th-8th Grade

7/26/24  9:00am-12:00pm, and 1:00-2:00pm*

Location: 494 Wando Park Blvd, Mt Pleasant and Sottile Theatre (44 George Street)

 

*This summer intensive will require students to attend all daily rehearsals to be a part of the main stage production. Sessions on July 15 - July 25 (9-12pm) will be held in Mt. Pleasant, the session on July 26th will be held in Mt. Pleasant (9-12pm) and at the Sottile Theatre (1-2pm), transportation not provided. Final session on July 27th (1:00-6:45pm) at the Sottile Theatre. Students will not be permitted to depart prior to the conclusion of the full performance.

Main Stage Production: Xanadu Jr  (Grades 8-12)

Teen artists (rising 8th through 12th grade) will have the opportunity to perform in Charleston's inaugural production of... Xanadu Jr at the historic College of Charleston Sottile Theatre!

 

Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it's 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sister muses take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds. Will she receive the grand gift that Zeus revealed she is destined one day to receive - the greatest gift possible - the gift of “Xanadu”?

Charleston Academy of Musical Theatre is proud to announce their upcoming production of XANADU Jr which will be performed by none other than - you! Register now to be cast in our production during this two week educational experience, consisting of a professional audition process, full rehearsals with extensive training in vocals, dance, and acting under the direction of several of Charleston’s most accomplished children’s theatre educators. Full day rehearsal sessions will culminate in a fully produced mainstage production!  Be a part of this amazing process with custom-designed costumes, sets, and props - all leading up to an epic on stage production July 27th at the Sottile Theatre in downtown Charleston. 

 

Final Performances with full audience (open to the public) will on Saturday 7/27/23 at 2pm & 5pm

 

We encourage all young artists to join us for this exciting summer performance opportunity - "Where time stops and the magic never ends."

Times: Mondays-Saturdays 9:30am-4:30pm

Show day Saturday July 27th: 12:30-6:45pm

*This summer intensive will require students to attend all daily rehearsals to be a part of the main stage production. Sessions on July 15-July 24 (9:30-4:30) will be held in Mt. Pleasant, while sessions on July 25-26 (9:30-4:30) will be held at the Sottile Theatre in downtown Charleston. Final session on July 27 (12:30-6:45pm) at the Sottile.

Tickets are required for theatre entry.

 

Families of students are asked to assist with the performance by volunteering to load-in or strike the set, or even help behind the scenes during the performance.  Students are required to assist with strike after the show. Your registration is your acceptance and agreement to the family and student volunteer responsibility.
