Summer at Charleston Academy of Musical Theatre is a great way to get involved for the first time

or for currently training performers to find programing designed to further develop their skill set.

All Sessions require a $100 non-refundable Deposit at time of registration, balance due May 15th. **Discounts/promotions offered may not be combined. Tuition fees are non-refundable.

Acting Camp: From Page to Stage (MTSC PS4-6)

Are you ready for a hilarious good time? Try our improv and storytelling camp where our theatre educators will guide students through creating their own narrative performance piece through Mad Libs style prompts for some crazy, old fashioned fun!  If your child loves to create their own show, now they can be a part of a collective imaginative process as our students come up with quirky story lines for scene work, challenge their creativity with the opportunity to build scenery, props, and costumes, while building up their confidence and problem solving abilities with some unexpected twists along the way! Students will collaborate on different theatrical elements that make up a production throughout the week to develop their acting and creative writing skills. Camp will culminate in an end-of-the-week onstage performance for families and friends to enjoy!

Level I: Musical Theatre Intensive: Disney Musical Mash-Up  (MTSC INT2-5)

We want you to “be our guest” for a fun-filled week of songs and scenes from Disney musicals in this full day summer intensive session led by Mrs. Suzanne Atwood, accomplished director and professional soprano. Our staff may not “talk about Bruno,” but they will help our campers develop budding talents, explore acting, singing, and dancing techniques designed to help introduce and strengthen performing skills, and harness their imaginative and creative energies into an end-of-week performance that will surely show our students “a whole new world.” Don’t let this opportunity go! Songs and scenes will be selected from popular Disney musicals and be paired expertly with carefully crafted and themed educational experiences that will ensure our performers will make some magical moments! This 5-day camp culminates in an end-of-week staged performance of scenes and songs that will be learned throughout the week.

Level II: Musical Theatre Intensive (MTSC INT5-8)

Anything is possible in this full day musical theatre intensive with internationally renowned Soprano, Mrs. Diana Flaherty. Join us for one week of extensive professional training culminating in a mini musical production that will be custom- tailored to the development and strengths of our young artists. Campers will get the tactical experience of putting on a show from start-to-finish, starting with structured auditions, daily rehearsals, and ending with a stage performance for friends and family. This tailored and unique intensive will enable our campers to have specialized training in voice, acting, and dance while working collaboratively as a team to put together a final production for the stage.

 

Age: Rising 5th-8th Grades

Choreo Intensive: Legally Blonde (MTSC LB5-8) 

Learn how to “Bend and Snap” with the best of them! Charleston Academy of Musical Theatre is excited to announce our newest dance summer camp inspired by the choreography and story of Legally Blonde. During this intensive, students will receive  personalized instruction, dedicated attention, and lots of choreo from the musical.  By the end of camp they’ll be saying “What? Like it’s hard?” This five day camp will culminate in an end-of-the-week showcase for family including choreographed numbers and scene excerpts from the Legally Blonde script.

Musical Theatre Camp: Under the Sea (MTSC LM1-4)

Come be “a part of our world!” We cannot wait to dive-in to this unique adapted Little Mermaid script with all of our students. During this camp students will be immersed in an undersea world of acting, singing, and dancing to some of our favorite Disney hits as they explore all parts of putting on a musical - from auditions to showtime! Our experienced staff teaches you acting, singing, and dancing techniques designed to help introduce and strengthen the budding performance skills of our students, paired expertly with carefully crafted and themed educational experiences that will ensure our performers are able to navigate confidently as they go “under the sea”! This fun five day camp culminates in an end-of-week performance on stage of scenes and songs that will be learned throughout the week. No prior experience is required.

Acting Camp: Wizarding World of Harry Potter (MTSC HP2-4)

Want to enter the Wizarding World but never received your letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Now’s your chance to pick up your wand and join us on an expertly themed 5-day Hogwarts experience, including the scientific curriculum of Professor Slughorn’s Potions class, Hagrid’s magical zoology experiments, Professor McGonagall’s famous yule ball dance techniques, and Harry Potter’s tips & tricks to becoming head student. This camp will use fun theatre games and acting techniques to build confident performance skills, and be paired expertly with carefully crafted and themed educational experiences that will ensure our performers will make some magical moments! Our five day Hogwarts experience will culminate in an end-of-the week performance on stage for friends and family.

Acting Camp II: Harry Potter and the Dark Arts (MTSC HP5-7)

Grab your wand and join us as we advance our newest class of students to the next level of their magical education during this intermediate wizarding experience, including the scientific curriculum of transfiguration with Professor McGonagall, Gilderoy Lockhart’s Duelling Club, Professor Snape’s rigorous Potions class, Newt Scamander’s fantastic beasts, and try your hat at mind reading with Queenie. You may even fall victim to the Dancing Feet Spell! This camp will use fun theatre games and acting techniques to build confident performance skills, and be paired expertly with carefully crafted and themed educational experiences that will ensure our performers will make some magical moments! Our five day experience will culminate in an end-of-the week performance on stage for friends and family.

Acting Camp: Star Wars (MTSC SW3-4, MTSC SW5-7)

Do you feel the Force all around you?  Have you dreamed of being on an intergalactic space mission fighting with the resistance (or defeating them!)?  Come join us as our Jedi Masters tour our newest Padawans through the worlds of Tatooine and Jakku during this adventure among the stars! Train in the ways of the Jedis as we enact never-before-seen scenes including our favorite Star Wars saga characters and galaxy locations! Students will harness their Jedi skills - lightsaber stage combat, improvisation and acting games themed around the world of Star Wars, planetary music and movement explorations. This five day camp will culminate in a performance of scenes learned throughout the week, and will be expertly paired with themed educational experiences that will ensure our younglings are able to navigate confidently as they go into “a galaxy far, far, away!”

Choreo Intensive: Dance Technique (MTSC CH5-8) 

Excited to explore the world of dance? This intensive will allow students to explore dance technique and different styles of dance ranging from ballet, contemporary, jazz, and musical theatre. Students will enhance their technique and widen their array of technical skills through personalized instruction. Students will complete a daily conditioning and stretching regime tailored towards dancers to improve their strength and flexibility, as well as an abridged technique class where students will learn a variety of steps specific to a unique style of dance, and refine their ability to execute those movements like a pro! Each day of camp will feature a partnering workshop where students will learn how to dance with one another and perform various lifts and assisted movements. Students will no longer fear stage fright when faced with exploring improvisation, as each day they will work to become more comfortable creating their own movements spontaneously in a way that looks intentional and fluid. This five day camp will culminate in an end-of-the-week showcase for family and friends!

MAIN STAGE PRODUCTIONS

Main Stage Production: CAMT’s Broadway Showcase  (MTSC BW6-8)

Calling all theatre kids! Come be a part of a staged musical theatre revue at the historic Sottile Theatre -  featuring show stopping numbers from some of Broadway’s most beloved classics like Disney’s Lion King & Wicked and modern favorites like Legally Blonde & Hamilton that will showcase the talents of your performers! 

 

This 2-week musical theatre training program is the perfect place for our students who have a passion to perform and want to hone their craft and showcase it on stage. Under the guidance and direction of several of Charleston’s most accomplished children's theatre educators, this musical medley showcase will enable our young artists to work with fun and exciting age-appropriate materials while receiving dedicated and detailed instruction on advanced voice, movement and acting techniques, exploring a variety of styles of musical theatre in a professional training environment. During the rehearsal process, students will be trained in the areas of character development, ensemble acting, improvisation, harmonization, and audition skills to develop musical theatre’s new generation of confident and well-rounded performers.  Performances at the Sottile Theatre on August 5th!

Main Stage Production: Mean Girls Jr  (MTSC MG8-12)

Teen artists (rising 8th through 12th grade) will have the opportunity to perform in Charleston's inaugural production of... Mean Girls Jr at the historic College of Charleston Sottile Theatre!

 

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

 

Charleston Academy of Musical Theatre is proud to announce their upcoming production of Mean Girls Jr which will be performed by none other than - you! Register now to be cast in our production during this two week educational intensive, consisting of a professional audition process, extensive training in vocals, dance, and acting by skilled professionals, full day rehearsal sessions, culminating in a fully produced mainstage production!  Be a part of this amazing process with custom-made costumes, carefully crafted sets, and highly detailed props - all leading up to an epic on stage production August 5th at the Sottile Theatre in downtown Charleston. 

 

Final Performances with full audience (open to the public) on Saturday 8/5/23 at 2pm & 5pm

 

We encourage all young artists to join us for this exciting summer performance opportunity -  this is where you belong. It’ll be so fetch! And don’t forget… on Wednesdays we wear pink!

Come and polish off your skills with our distinguished faculty member Diana Flaherty in this  Master Class that will focus on developing the unique skills that come along with scene work and vocal duets. This intensive provides students with a daily, 30-minute, one-on-one vocal session with internationally renowned soprano, Diana Flaherty. Students will receive scene coaching and choreography, as well. This workshop is very limited, and in turn will sell out fast, so make sure that you secure your spot. To achieve a high level of individualized instruction we are limiting this camp to only 6 students, maintaining a 2-to-1 staff-to-student ratio. The week culminates with a recorded showcase* of works and students will walk away from this camp with new and refined skills in acting and singing, as well as the unique lessons that come along with this!  Director approval needed - by invitation only
